My practice consists of paintings in acrylic and oil on canvas, predominantly depicting female figures through a fusion of abstraction and stylized representation. Utilizing pattern and color, I explore the relationship between the figure and its environment. Some of my paintings depict identifiable figures and spaces, while others lean towards abstraction.

Patterning is essential to the work as it goes from highly contained to falling apart into another pattern, creating an ambiguous space where the figure exists in harmony with its surroundings. Patterning is a system and a decorative element contributing to the overall visual language. Additionally, my graphic sensibility disrupts the pictorial space, flattening it and contrasting the painterly mark-making with soft gradients.

Drawing inspiration from the expansive desert landscapes of my upbringing, my work references the infinite perception of nature. Patterns reinforce this feeling, evoking a sense of vastness and endlessness. I am particularly interested in exploring how the visual language of landscapes translates to interior spaces. While my artistic process may be initiated by a design, the path I take remains flexible, allowing the materials to influence the creative journey, much like how I meander through my natural surroundings.
